Three people die from coronavirus in Somerset – region by zone distribution Bath City News

Three more coronavirus deaths have been confirmed in Somerset in the past 24 hours.

Two deaths have been reported in the Mendip area and one in the Sedgemoor area.

Today’s grim toll brings the county’s total death toll to 1,203 within 28 days of a positive Covid test.

There have also been 24 new viral infections reported in the county in the past 24 hours.

North Somerset has seen seven new cases reported, including five in Mendip and four in Somerset West and Taunton.

Three new positive tests were recorded in each of South Somerset and Sedgemoor, including two in Bath and North East Somerset.

Somerset West and Taunton is the area with the lowest case rate in the county at 8.4 per 100,000 population, followed closely by Bath and North East Somerset with a rate of 8.8 per 100,000 population.

The new cases in Somerset are part of a total of 2,729 registered across the UK in the past 24 hours, bringing the national total to 4,398,431.

UK figures

There were 18 people whose deaths were recorded today, within 28 days of testing positive, across the UK.

More than 127,000 people have lost their lives across the UK since the start of the pandemic, but the daily death toll has been falling since the second peak on January 19.

There were also 140 people admitted to hospital across the UK according to the latest figures, with the total in the previous seven days now standing at 1,191 – a drop of nearly 300 in the previous seven days.

As it stands, the number of people who received their first dose of the vaccine has exceeded 33 million, the current total being 33,257,651.

There are also now over 11 million people who have received their second stroke.
