COVID-29: From a small island garden to a historic cathedral – the images behind the vaccine rollout in the UK | UK News

A photo of a man being vaccinated against coronavirus in his garden on a small British island is part of a collection of images showing people behind the national vaccination effort.

The unseen photographs capture moments across the UK in museums, stadiums and cathedrals in recent months as efforts continue to vaccinate the country against COVID.

Taken by photojournalists Jude Palmer, Glenn Edward and Liam McBurney, the series of images showing the size and scale of the nationwide immunization program has been released by the government ahead of a new campaign urging those under 50 to receive the vaccine.

Photos also include smiling portraits of vaccinators and volunteers, a bird’s eye view of socially distant patients awaiting their shots in Salisbury Cathedral and an elderly couple holding hands at a site vaccination clinic in Ulverston, Cumbria.

The three photographers captured the images as they traveled to mobile coronavirus vaccination units, nursing homes and pop-up vaccination sites in February and March.

Ms Palmer said: “Although the pandemic was an incredibly difficult time in our history, it had to be documented.

“It has been an honor to witness the incredible deployment of the life-saving vaccine firsthand and to document it in a meaningful and compassionate way.

“The photography project tells many authentic stories of people involved in the immunization program and those who have already stepped forward to receive their vaccine, from their smiles, laughs, nerves and sighs of relief as we move closer to ‘a more normal way of life. “
