Crawley College incident: Sussex police arrest 18-year-old Brighton News

An 18-year-old was arrested following reports that shots were fired at a college with two injured staff.

Sussex Police have confirmed the Crawley teenager is still in custody following the incident at Crawley College this afternoon.

Students and staff were evacuated to a safe space while police searched the buildings. A gun and a knife were seized.

Two university staff were treated for minor injuries and police confirmed they were not gunshot wounds.

Chief Superintendent Howard Hodges said a large police presence remains in place and called on anyone with information to come forward.

He said, “Two college staff were slightly injured and reported to a walk-in medical center.

“No one else has come to us with injuries, but if you need medical assistance, please contact the ambulance service or speak to an officer.

“We are in contact with the agents of the South-East anti-terrorism police (CTPSE). All avenues of investigation are open at this stage.

“Roads near the college have been closed and we continue to ask members of the public to stay clear of the area for now.”
