Building evacuated after fire at Bok Shop in East Street, Brighton Brighton News

A FIRE broke out inside a chicken store this evening, filling the building and apartments above with smoke.

A witness at the scene reported “a lot of smoke” from The Bok Shop in East Street, Brighton, and said firefighters were called to the street at around 5:50 pm.

Firefighters remain at the scene and people were evacuated from the building earlier this evening.

Argus:

The witness said, “There was a tremendous amount of smoke coming out of the chicken store.

“There are still fire trucks there now and firefighters on the roof.

“I’m pretty sure they got everyone out, and the road was closed at that end.”

The East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 5:39 pm to an East Street take out store.

Argus:

“The building had four floors and apartments above the store.

“There was a fire in the store with smoke in the apartments.

“We sent two fire trucks and an aerial ladder platform and the fire is now out and the smoke has cleared.

“The fire is treated as accidental.”
