Here is what you need to know.

What is the Super Pink Moon?

The April Full Moon is nicknamed after the pink flowers that bloom at this time of year. It’s also a super moon because it’s closest to Earth, which makes it appear bigger and brighter than usual.

Top tips for seeing the pink moon

Either wrapped in the warmth of the garden or gazing at the night sky from a window, here are Parkdean Resort’s top tips for stargazing.

1 – Get up!

The higher you are, the better your chances of having a clear sky to see the stars, and you will be able to see from the bottom up on the horizon to watch the moon rise! Take a hike in your area and explore the surrounding area to find the perfect spot for stargazing! The further away you are from light pollution, the more likely you are to see the stars. The moons always rise in the east and set in the west – so follow that direction in your search.

2 – turn off the lights

For those who watch the stars from the comfort of their home, turning off the lights indoors can improve visibility of the night sky, provided you aren’t afraid of the dark! Artificial light can make it harder to see the stars in the sky, so make sure that wherever you are is as dark as possible.

3 – Choose a night with a clear sky

Parkdean Resorts suggests choosing a night when clear skies are expected for the best chance of seeing the stars. Not only that, but planning stargazing adventures for special celestial events such as the Pink Moon!

4 – Look for what you are watching

Enhance the stargazing experience and download Star Chart for free on AR compatible Apple or Android devices. Star Chart lets you point the camera at the night sky and will tell you exactly what’s up there!

5 – Use the time and date website for the best chance of spotting the planets!

The time and date allow you to enter your location, before generating information on when the planets are most visible! With lots of useful information about what’s in the universe, it’s a great way to educate the family about the wonders of space.
