The 2021 Hyundai i30 N update will go on sale from £ 33,745 Car News

Hyundai has updated its i30 N hot hatch with a range of mechanical and visual improvements, including the option of an automatic transmission for the first time.

Ready to start deliveries in the coming weeks in both Standard and Fastback hatchback body styles, starting at £ 33,745 and £ 34,495 respectively, the revised Volkswagen Golf GTI rival has received an updated styling that brings it closer together of the recently revamped regular i30, while greater use of lightweight materials is aimed at improving agility.

The two i30 N variants retain the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which in the UK is only offered in its most powerful form, 276 hp, with the Performance Package. For 2021, however, buyers have the option of specifying a new eight-speed Dual Clutch Automatic (DCT) transmission (£ 35,695 for the sedan and £ 36,445 for the Fastback), with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The i30 N Performance gets a 5hp power boost over the outgoing car, along with a torque boost to 289 lb-ft, allowing a speed of 0-62mph in 5.9sec – 0.2 s faster than the old model. Top speed is still electronically capped at 155 mph.

Cars equipped with DCT benefit from a new N Grin Shift mode, which provides 20 seconds of turbocharger boost and maximum transmission response when activated using a button on the steering wheel. All versions retain the customizable drive modes of the original car, including the user-defined N Custom tuning which provides greater control over the engine, suspension, steering and transmission response, as well as the exhaust sound.

Performance models feature an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, receive larger front brakes (360mm) and ride on newly developed 19-inch alloy rims and Pirelli P-Zero rubber, which reduces mass. 14.4 kg suspended compared to standard 18 inch alloys. Both suspension and steering have been readjusted as a result of this weight loss.

Inside, the i30 N can now be ordered with N Lightweight sport seats, 2.2 kg lighter than standard items. An optional 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the latest version of Hyundai’s Bluelink connected car services.
