Murder investigation launched after 17-year-old boy chased into Smethwick store and stabbed to death UK News

A murder investigation was opened after a teenager was chased into a store and fatally stabbed.

West Midlands Police said the 17-year-old victim was found stabbed next to a white Ford Focus that crashed into a street in Smethwick at around 4:20 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses say he was followed to a Waterloo Road store minutes earlier where he was attacked with a knife.

He was taken to hospital but pronounced dead about an hour later.

Police call witnesses to come forward

An 18-year-old man was arrested for murder in the early hours of Sunday at an address in town.

Detective Inspector Hannah Whitehouse of the Homicide Unit said: ‘This is the tragic loss of a young life and my thoughts are with the boy’s family who are clearly devastated by what happened. .

“We understand the victim was stabbed on Waterloo Road and then transported in a white Ford Focus which crashed into Heath Street.

“Several people have fled the scene of the collision and we are working hard to try to identify everyone involved.”

She said officers worked “all night” and seized CCTV and spoke to a number of witnesses which led to the initial arrest.

But she added: ‘I really need to hear all the witnesses who saw the victim being chased down Waterloo Road or him and the attacker leaving there, as well as anyone who saw the collision on Heath Street and what happened thereafter.

“If anyone captured a video on a phone or dash cam, I would also ask them to make contact as they might have some vital information.”
