Pubs, churches and even a boxing club are due to open to voters this week.
Polling stations are expected to open at dozens of sites across Sunderland from 7 a.m. on Thursday, May 6 for the final round of local elections.
At least one seat in each of Sunderland’s 25 city council wards is contested, with three double contests, meaning a total of 28 seats are up for grabs.
Of these, the Labor Party defends 21, including four vacant, two held by the Conservatives and one by the Liberal Democrats.
Wearside’s 208,483 registered voters will also have the chance to have their say on who should be the Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner.
More than two-fifths of the city’s electorate have also chosen the option of postal voting, but anyone who has missed the deadline to send theirs can still vote by bringing it to their polling station.
Hand sanitizers and social distancing measures are expected to be in place to ensure voting can take place safely.
But the public should also check where the nearest polling station is, as several changes have been made to locations in previous years.
