People can now take Covid tests when shopping in Bath Bath City News

A new test and collection site opened in Bath this week, offering buyers the option to ‘jump in’ to take a test.

The 3 Burton Street site opened on Monday May 10 and has been busy distributing test kits to residents.

The Bath and North East Somerset Council is hoping the site will offer practice testing and test kit collections for buyers and workers now that the retail business has reopened.

Councilor Dine Romero, Cabinet Member for Children and Youth, Communities and Culture, said: ‘If you are on the move for work or shopping in Bath city center, stop by the new test site and council collection at 3 Burton Street.

“It’s in a great central location and it’s really easy to get to for anyone taking a free rapid coronavirus test.

She continued, “When you pass, just go in and take two test kits – or, if you’ve never been tested before, you can take your test there.

“You don’t need to book and the tests take less than five minutes.

“Getting you tested regularly is the next step in helping the country get back to normal.”

The new site will replace facilities at the Apex Hotel, which closed on May 7.

The new site will operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

People in Bath can now go to over 40 locations to pick up a kit and people can find their nearest location here.

Locals are encouraged to visit one of the testing centers regularly to take a test or pick up a test kit. The tests are done twice a week, three or four days apart.

Becky Reynolds, director of public health at the board, said: “It is always very important that we all continue to work hard to break the chains of transmission of Covid by performing rapid tests on a regular basis.

“Taking a test is easy and there are plenty of places you can get a test kit. This new site will make it even easier for people who buy and work in Bath. Let’s stay on track.”

Testing is open to anyone over the age of 16 who lives or works in Bath and North East Somerset, provided they are free of symptoms.
