Further test and trace failures in Bristol, North Somerset and BANES have been revealed Bath City News

Three areas in the Bristol region have not had access to full data of positive coronavirus tests for almost a month.

Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol and North Somerset were three of eight local authorities in England affected by failures in the test and traceability system.

Another place that was hit was in Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire, according to the BBC.

And a recent outbreak of infections has been linked to the Indian variant.

The government has confirmed that a “small number” of people in contact with people who test positive for the virus have “experienced a temporary delay in receiving a message from the NHS Test and Trace.”

Other affected areas include Blackpool, York and Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock.

Between April 21 and May 11, the £ 37 billion testing and tracing system run by Baroness Dido Harding – married to Weston MP John Penrose – only provided details of a limited number of cases Covid positives to the eight local authorities.

A total of 734 positive tests were reported. This resulted in their contacts not being traced locally.

A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Social Affairs told the BBC: “A small number of contacts of positive cases have experienced a temporary delay in receiving a message from the NHS Test and Trace.”

They added: “NHS Test and Trace has contacted more than 10 million people since the start of the pandemic, dramatically reducing the potential spread of the virus.

“A small number of contacts of positive cases recently experienced a temporary delay in receiving a message from us, but this was resolved quickly. All people have been contacted and instructed to self-isolate for 10 days.
