Rolls-Royce increases exclusivity with new Coachbuild arm Car News

Rolls-Royce is on the verge of creating a dedicated body building division to expand its production of bespoke luxury cars.

The Goodwood-based manufacturer has a heritage of producing exclusive, built-to-order body styles dating back to the 1920s. In 2017, the company revealed the Sweptail as a one-of-a-kind bespoke creation with a reported price tag of around £ 10million. sterling.

The company has expanded the customization options offered by its Bespoke division, and since the start of this year every car produced by Rolls-Royce has featured custom elements.

Rolls-Royce has now hinted that it will further expand this service with the company’s lightweight Architecture of Luxury aluminum chassis, which was introduced with the latest Phantom and now underpins all of the company’s vehicles.

The company says the ability to treat this platform in the same way as a rolling chassis opens up new possibilities in body design and means that it has “reacquired the freedom to build almost any shape of body that we have. its customers can imagine, constrained only by the fundamental design. and technical requirements ”.

“The ability to customize almost every aspect of their automobile is one of the main reasons our customers contact us. But we know that some want to go even further, ”said Rolls-Royce boss Torsten Müller-Ötvös. “In 2017, we stunned the world with our first fully drivable car of the modern era, the spectacular Rolls-Royce Sweptail. It was, by definition, a very unique commission; but in our minds it was the start of a journey.

“We have officially re-established our Coachbuild department for clients who wish to go beyond existing constraints and explore the almost limitless possibilities this opens up for them. We are able to offer our customers the opportunity to create a motor car in which every element is handcrafted to their precise individual requirements, as befits our status as a true luxury home.

Rolls-Royce has yet to give full details of the expanded Coachbuild department, but said an official statement “will be made shortly.”
