Blackpool roller coaster crumbles, forcing thrill seekers to descend a huge ride | UK | New UK News

The two-lane wooden Grand National merry-go-round, built in 1935, broke down at noon on Tuesday.

The staff at the Blackpool Pleasure Beach attraction had to climb the merry-go-round, which is 19 meters high, to escort the nervous thrill seekers to the ground.

A spokesperson for Blackpool Pleasure Beach said: “At 11:55 am on Tuesday June 1, there was a stop at the Grand National ski lift hill.

“All of the runners were escorted safely up the hill to the elevator, and the ride was checked and reopened just before 1pm.

“Shortly thereafter there was a very brief stop on Big One Hill, 50 feet away, the runners remained seated and the ride continued after five minutes.”
