Sheffield Eagles’ bad run continues with beating at the hands of the Halifax Panthers UK News

Mark Aston’s side dispatched nine tries to West Yorkshire on Sunday afternoon and had mainstay Scott Wheeldon sent off in the second half for a late shoulder charge to compound their misery.

The result leaves them winless in six, having tasted second-round victory over the York City Knights.

Halifax took just ten minutes to open the visitors’ defense and added three more points before Sheffield reduced the deficit with their first bout of offensive pressure in a one-sided 40-minute opening.

Ryan Millar tried his luck in his 100th appearance for the Sheffield Eagles.

A pass from hooker James Davey found Blake Broadbent crossing the line shortly before the halftime siren. Izaac Farrell added the extras to bring the score to 20-6 at the break.

Influential second row Brad Knowles was rushed to hospital with a head injury after the first half to make Sheffield’s chances of making a comeback even more difficult.

And things turned from bad to worse after the break as Halifax ran five more tries.

A converted score for winger Ryan Millar in his 100th appearance for the club – after advancing through the now-defunct academy and making his senior debut in 2015 – was all Sheffield had to show for his second-best efforts half time.

The afternoon was even bitter for the Eagles with ten to go when Wheeldon hit Kevin Larroyer late in a moment of poor discipline, which allowed his team to finish the game with 12 men.

Sheffield is now tenth in the RFL Championship with two wins in eight rounds. They will face Oldham in the thirteenth next Sunday.
