Prince Harry and Meghan welcome new baby, Lilibet Diana Brighton News

THE Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrate the arrival of their baby girl, whom they named Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

Meghan gave birth to her second child on Friday June 4 at 11:40 a.m. at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.

Lilibet, named after the Queen and her grandmother, Princess Diana, “is now settling in the house,” Harry and Meghan said.

The 7-pound, 11-ounce baby is the couple’s second child, after two-year-old Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

In a thank you message from Meghan and Harry on Archewell’s website, they said: “On June 4th we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili.

“She is more than we could have imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we have felt around the world. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family. ”

Harry and Meghan’s press secretary added: “The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special family time.”

Lilibet – the Queen’s family nickname – was first used when Princess Elizabeth was just a toddler and unable to pronounce her own name correctly.

Her grandfather, King George V, affectionately called her “Lilibet” imitating his own attempts to say Elizabeth.

The sweet nickname stuck and she became Lilibet in her family from that point on. The Duke of Edinburgh also called his wife Lilibet, writing to his mother-in-law after their marriage: “Lilibet is the only ‘thing’ in the world that is absolutely real to me.”

Harry and Meghan’s new baby girl – the Queen’s 11th great-granddaughter – will be known as Lili.

A variation of the lily, the flower is often seen as a symbol of purity, commitment, rebirth and fertility. Lili’s middle name, Diana, honors Harry’s future mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

It’s no surprise the couple chose to pay tribute to Diana, who died in a car crash in 1997 when Harry was just 12 years old.

Lili was born almost a month before the princess turned 60 on July 1.

Lili’s cousin, Princess Charlotte, also has Diana as a middle name, as well as Elizabeth.

She is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new granddaughter, Lili, is eighth to the throne.

The top seven places remain unchanged – Prince of Wales, Duke of Cambridge, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Harry and Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

Harry has retained his place in the line of succession despite his departure from royal life and abandonment of his HRH style.
