The UK has reported an additional 6,048 coronavirus cases and 13 COVID-related deaths in the last 24-hour period, according to government data.
The figures are to be compared with 5,683 new infections and one death which were announced on Monday.
This is the second time that cases have surpassed 6,000 in the past seven days, with 6,238 reported last Friday.
Today’s cases are 2,883 more than at the same time last week when 3,165 infections were reported without death.

A further 112,941 first doses of vaccine were administered during the last 24 hour period, bringing the total to 40,573,517, and there were 306,068 additional second injections, bringing this total to 28,227,362.
Earlier today, the Secretary of the Environment George Eustice told Sky News his advice to the British public “would be a vacation home” despite official government guidelines that people can travel to Green List countries without having to self-quarantine upon return.
He added that he would stay at home with “no intention of traveling or going abroad this summer.”
However, Downing Street has not ruled out Prime Minister Boris Johnson taking a vacation abroad later in the year.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced a “Reinforced support package” for Greater Manchester and Lancashire to combat an increase in the variant of the Delta coronavirus.
Residents were also urged to minimize travel and meet people outdoors rather than indoors “where possible”.
Support package includes additional costs COVID-19[female[feminine test, military support and rapid response teams.
Many people also have struggled to reserve a COVID-19 vaccine today after the NHS website appears to have been hit with a technical glitch.
Some 25 to 29-year-olds said they received an on-screen message saying they were “not eligible” for the jab, although the government announced yesterday that they could do so from today .
