Priory Country Park in Bedford receives special recognition for its wildflowers and wildlife Bedford News

Priory Country Park has had its County Wildlife Site status extended.

Although it has had this status for several years, the extension of its status is a recognition of the site’s importance to wildlife.

Wildflowers were encouraged to spread and flourish, creating a welcoming home for native wildlife.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said: “As a country park, Priory has long led the way in allowing our natural environment to flourish, with careful management, creating a wildlife refuge within walking distance of downtown. town of Bedford.

“In recent times in particular, I know that we have all come to appreciate our local parks even more as places to exercise, enjoy the fresh air and get into nature.

“We have extended this approach of encouraging natural grasslands and wildflower meadows to other parks, to create spaces where nature thrives alongside mown areas where people can walk and play thanks to our “Bugs and Bees” project.

“Kudos to Priory Country Park on this extension of their status to the County Wildlife Site, while recognizing the importance of the work being done to encourage wildflowers and wildlife. “
