Wales drew their European Championships opener, coming back from behind to finish 1-1 against Switzerland.
They fell behind in the 49th minute when Breel Embolo’s free header on a free kick put the Swiss in control.
The breakthrough came moments after Daniel Ward refused Embolo with a stunt save.
But Kieffer Moore, bandaged up after an earlier collision, leveled things off in the 74th minute – heading after a short turn.
He also arguably had the best luck in the first half, with another header forcing a nice save from the Swiss keeper.
There were moments of nervousness late when substitute Mario Gavranovic scored with a volley in the 85th minute – but he was ruled offside.
“It’s never good to lose a goal, but getting a goal and seeing the game end is a big plus for us,” Moore said after the game.
“It’s tough there, but it’s what we expected, we’ve been here for a week now. Obviously it’s a great opportunity and I loved every second of it.”
The match was played in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Matches are taking place across the continent, with the final at Wembley on July 11.
The Welsh government has advised against travel due to the pandemic, but a few hundred supporters made the 3,000 mile journey.
Azerbaijan is on the UK’s orange list, so fans will have to self-isolate for 10 days upon their return.
Wales’ next game is against Turkey on Wednesday.
