Sasha Johnson: Second teenager charged with conspiracy to murder black rights activist | UK News

A second person has been charged with the murder of black equal rights activist Sasha Johnson at a party in south London in late May.

Devonte Brown, 18, of Southwark, has been charged with conspiracy to murder, Metropolitan Police said, nearly two weeks after Cameron Deriggs appeared in court for the same offense.

Brown was indicted on Friday evening and was due to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday in connection with the incident at Consort Road, Peckham, in the early hours of May 23.

Ms Johnson, 27, remains in critical condition in hospital.

On May 26, five men were arrested in connection with the incident and four were released on bail until the end of June.

Deriggs, 18, of Bromley Hill, Lewisham, has been remanded into custody and will then appear at the Old Bailey on June 25.

Ms Johnson, a member of the Taking the Initiative, was in the garden at the back of a house on Consort Road when she was shot.

Detectives continue to call anyone with information to come forward by anonymously calling the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, citing reference 1172 / 23MAY.
