England fan in ‘serious’ condition after falling from pit at Wembley in Croatia game UK News

An England supporter is in serious condition in hospital after falling from the stands at Wembley in the Euro 2020 game against Croatia, officials have said.

UEFA has opened an investigation after the fall of the English fan just after the game kicked off at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium said: “We can confirm that a spectator fell from the stands just after the kick-off of the England-Croatia game at Wembley Stadium.

“The spectator received medical treatment on the spot and was then taken to hospital in serious condition.

“We will continue to work with UEFA to ensure the matter is fully investigated and we continue to monitor the situation.”

England scored three points after a goal from Raheem Sterling – the player’s first in a major tournament for his country.

In Newcastle, thousands of fans have flocked to enjoy the game at outdoor pubs and brasseries including Stack, Central Park and the Paddy Park Fanzone in Riverside.

England face Scotland at 8 p.m. on Friday in a much-anticipated replay of the two sides’ clash at Euro 96, which saw the legend Toon Gazza score one of the greatest goals of his career, hitting Colin Hendry before bringing the ball home.
