Lobbying ban for ministers up to five years recommended following Greensill affair | Politics News

Ministers should be banned from political lobbying for up to five years after leaving office, the anti-corruption watchdog recommended.

The Committee on Standards in Public Life has released its interim review of the lobbying guidelines following the Greensill case involving David Cameron.

The results said: “Government departments and ACOBA (Business Appointments Advisory Board) should be able to ban lobbying for a longer period of up to five years when they deem it appropriate.

“Whether a longer ban is warranted will depend on the nature of the post held by a government candidate.

“If a candidate held a particularly senior position, or if contacts made or inside information received will remain relevant after two years, a longer ban may be necessary to ensure that former officials lobbying the government do not directly benefit from their position. warrant when they do. therefore.”

The committee’s final report and recommendations will be sent to the Prime Minister later this year.
