Somerset region sees biggest daily increase in Covid cases since February 10 Bath City News

One region in Somerset recorded its largest daily increase in coronavirus cases since February 10, 2021.

Bath and North East Somerset have confirmed 28 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the highest daily figure since the second week of February.

North Somerset is not far either and has recorded 21 positive tests in the region in the past 24 hours.

This is their biggest daily increase in cases since February 22, although it is only a week away from the full lifting of the lockdown restrictions.

Elsewhere in Somerset, daily cases were not as high. Somerset West and Taunton and South Somerset have both recorded seven new cases.

Sedgemoor has reported five new cases in the past 24 hours and Mendip has returned only one new positive case.

In total, there have been 69 new cases of the coronavirus in Somerset and Bath in the past 24 hours, an increase from yesterday’s figure of 50 new cases.

No new deaths have been confirmed in Somerset and Bath in the past 24 hours, although there have been eight daily deaths in the UK.

The number of positive test results in each area since the start of the pandemic is recorded below, with the new positive test results in parentheses.

Vaccination

A total of 71,343,859 vaccines have been administered across the UK to date. 41,551,201 of these were the first dose and 29,792,658 were the second dose.

574,551 total doses were given in the past 24 hours across the UK, the highest daily number of vaccines given in more than a week since June 5.

2,239 people received the first vaccine in Somerset and Bath in the past 24 hours, while 1,876 others received the second dose.
