Worthing Pride postponed to September due to Covid-19 Brighton News

A PRIDE event has been postponed following the government’s announcement on the postponement of the end of restrictions related to Covid-19.

This year’s Worthing Pride, which celebrates lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender (LGBT), was originally scheduled to take place on July 10. It was postponed to September 18. Despite the date change, there will still be the same acts, traders, stalls and location.

The delay came after the potential death rate rose due to the new delta variant of Covid-19, leading the PM to delay the release of restrictions from the original June 21 date and move it to July 19.

A spokesperson for the event’s organizers said: “The safety of our guests has always been our number one priority and all of our risk assessments have detailed that if government guidelines change, we would seek to move our date and to have plans in place for this to happen.

“We have worked incredibly hard behind the scenes with all local government agencies to ensure that we will be able to bring Worthing Pride to life this year.

“We have made sure that all deeds, traders and infrastructure are available to make this event go as planned on the new date, so it’s just a chance for each of our guests to ‘get stung’ and s ‘assure we are all about to end the summer on a high note at Worthing Pride.

“This is not the news we wanted to announce; however, customer safety must remain our number one priority, and we look forward to seeing you all in September.”

Organizers had sold 60% of their available tickets before the announcement of the suspension of restrictions.

All tickets already purchased through our ticketing site will remain valid. Anyone unable to attend on the new date will be entitled to a full refund according to the terms and conditions indicated on the organizer’s website.

He said: “The goal has always been to party the city deserves, and doing so with the current restrictions in place does not reflect the overall cause of pride.

“The investment has been huge this year on the part of Worthing Pride organizers, local government and partners, carrying over losses from the first postponement without government support, making this decision very difficult.

“The entire festival supply chain has been affected by these choices, but there is no doubt that the UK festival scene will rebound again, and we encourage our guests to support all smaller festivals in the UK . ”
