The 16-year-old was arrested after police were called to the shingle near Brighton Palace Pier at 11:45 p.m. last night.
Police responded to a report that a woman in her twenties was sexually assaulted on the beach.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said yesterday afternoon: “Officers searched the area and a 16-year-old boy was arrested nearby ten minutes later on suspicion of sexual assault.
“He is currently in custody for an interview and other investigations.”
