South Yorkshire man jailed after ‘horrific’ hammer attack UK News

Omar Ali, 28, was driving along Alma Road, Moorgate on April 15 (2021) when he saw the victim, a man in his 30s, standing next to his car.

Ali stopped next to him and jumped out of his car, brandishing a hammer.

He repeatedly hit the victim on the head, leaving her unconscious on the ground.

Officers opened an investigation and Ali was arrested the next day before being charged with intentional injury and breach of a serious crime prevention order.

Ali, of Selwyn Street, Rotherham was sentenced yesterday (June 16) to 18 months in Sheffield Crown Court.

DC Rachel Scott said: “It was a horrific and frenzied attack that could easily have ended tragically.

“Omar Ali has shown a blatant disregard for the welfare of the victim and will now have an extended period behind bars to reflect on his actions.”
