Fans have arrived at Wembley ahead of tonight’s highly anticipated game between England and Scotland – after hundreds of tartan army members partied in London this afternoon.
About 20,000 Scotland fans traveled to the capital for the Euro 2020 game, despite Mayor Sadiq Khan’s insistence not to do so.
Crowds of supporters dressed in national shirts and draped in flags chanted, sang and bagpipes around Leicester Square, King’s Cross and Hyde Park.
There appeared to be no social distancing as thousands of fans invaded Leicester Square, despite warnings from police to follow COVID-19 restrictions.
Videos on social media showed fans giving an enthusiastic rendition of Flower of Scotland after arriving at King’s Cross station.
Many also gathered in Hyde Park, while others set off flares and danced in the rain around Leicester Square.
Sky correspondent Ashna Hurynag said: “Fans have taken to the plaza where tourists usually flock.
“Thousands of people are believed to have brought trains into Kings Cross and Euston stations from Edinburgh and Glasgow.
“Police are on the outskirts of the crowd, watching for now. Their approach, according to a Sky News officer, is to inform and educate, but they” assess the mood of the crowd. “
“The atmosphere, for now, is cheerful with ‘Scotland will party’ chants filling the square.”
