Somerset records 107 coronavirus cases – highest figure since February Bath City News

Another 107 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Somerset in the past 24 hours – the highest number in four months.

Figures released by Public Health England show the highest number of cases in the county have been reported in Bath and northeast Somerset, where 44 new cases have been found.

North Somerset has also recorded a high number of cases, after 25 positive tests returned.

Today’s figures (released June 18) mean there are now a total of 39,757 confirmed cases of the virus in Somerset since the start of the pandemic.

The 107 new cases are the highest number of new cases recorded in Somerset in a single day since February 22, 2021, when 142 cases were recorded.

Fortunately, no coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in Somerset in the past 24 hours.

The number of positive test results in each area since the start of the pandemic is recorded below, with the new positive test results in parentheses:

Bath and North East Somerset: 8 610 (+44)
Mendip: 3,527 (+2)
Somerset North: 10,416 (+25)
Sedgemoor: 5,552 (+7)
Somerset West and Taunton: 6 105 (+18)
Somerset South: 5,547 (+11)

Distribution of Covid deaths for each region of Somerset

The number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test result in each area since the start of the pandemic is recorded below, with new deaths and deaths removed from the total as a result of past data revisions, in parentheses.

The government said as of 9 a.m. on Friday there had been 10,476 more laboratory-confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the UK.

The government also said 11 more people died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, bringing the UK total to 127,956.

Separate figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that there have been 153,000 registered deaths in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Meanwhile, government data through June 16 shows that of the 73,359,099 Covid vaccine injections given in the UK so far, 42,460,632 were first doses – an increase from 243,978 the day before.

Some 30,898,467 were second doses, an increase of 223,260.
