South Yorkshire Police said they were called to the orange Meadowhall car park at 2:57 p.m. this afternoon following reports of a theft.
An officer on leave reported that two men, driving a suspected stolen moped, attempted to steal jewelry from a member of the public.
When arrested, the men became aggressive and were subsequently involved in an altercation with the officer and several members of the public.
Numerous police cars were deployed at the scene and a man in his 20s was arrested.
