A six-year-old girl has died after she and her father were hit by a car while walking together in Stoke-on-Trent.
Police said “despite the best efforts of passers-by,” the girl, who has not been named, was confirmed dead at the scene.
Her father survived and is being treated for his injuries. The driver of the car is being treated for a head injury, police said.
Officers are appealing for witnesses after the incident, which occurred on Endon Road in the city.
Inspector Lee Robinson of Staffordshire Police said: “We do not yet fully understand what happened and therefore I urge people to avoid the area while we investigate and please do not speculate on the circumstances.
“However, I would call on anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch and help our investigations.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 or via social media, citing incident 716 of June 19.
