Millions of people could receive emergency telephone alarm as government tests alert UK News

Millions of people across the UK could receive an emergency telephone alarm as the government tests a new alert system.

Emergency alerts are managed by the government and will alert you if there is a danger to life nearby.

And ahead of its launch in summer 2021, a number of planned tests will take place on Tuesday, June 22 across the UK.

If you are an Android user, you may receive a test alert, which means your device may make a loud siren-like sound.

However, don’t worry – some UK mobile phone networks test emergency alerts between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

The alert will read: “This is an Emergency Alerting Service mobile network operator test. You do not need to take any action. To learn more, search for gov.uk/alerts.” .

A similar test is also taking place in Reading, Berkshire on June 29 between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. so you can receive an alert if you are living in or passing through a testing area.

Along with the service, your phone or tablet will receive an alert with tips on how to stay safe in an emergency.

Emergency alerts are broadcast from mobile phone masts so that every compatible mobile phone or tablet within range receives an alert.

The government does not need your phone number to send you an alert.
