A new Covid vaccination pop-up clinic opens in Newcastle allowing those over 18 to come simply to be bitten.
Based in Times Square behind the Center for Life, the pop-up will provide 2,000 additional weekly appointments in the city.
It comes as infection rates in the North East continue to skyrocket, according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

Newcastle, County Durham and North Tyneside are among the five regions in England with the largest week-over-week increases for the seven days ending June 17.
Anyone over the age of 18 can now be vaccinated without having to meet specific criteria.
As part of a major effort to provide vaccines to every adult in the UK, the new clinic in Newcastle will be open four days a week and offer 500 vaccinations a day from Tuesday.
Jabs will be provided on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday for the first week.
The clinic will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. with three sessions – morning, afternoon, evening – which will make it easier for people to get vaccinated.

At the start of each session, 150 to 200 tickets will be issued for that time slot. They will be issued on a first come, first served basis and people will be asked to line up and wait to be vaccinated.
Professor Neil Watson, COO of the NHS Covid Vaccination Program for North East and Northern Cumbria, reminded people how important it is to be vaccinated to help everyone get back on track the social activities he enjoys.
He said: “We know that young people often want to access services more immediately, so we have introduced this new contextual service which will help make it as easy as possible to get their vaccine.
“Getting the vaccine is the best way to get back to normal things that we can enjoy, like all the social activities in Times Square and the pubs, bars and clubs nearby.

“We know how very effective the vaccines we have are at preventing people from getting very sick and reducing transmission – so getting the vaccine is the best way to protect yourself, your friends and your family.”
The vaccination program in Newcastle has been stepped up in recent weeks as it aims to vaccinate more than 17,000 people per week before the July 19 deadline.
This includes additional services on the vaccine bus, more community pharmacies offering the vaccine, and more appointments at large immunization centers.
The Center for Life vaccination center has now increased its capacity to around 1,500 people per day.
There is still capacity at the Newcastle Eagles site for vaccines this week – with over 1,000 locations available this weekend.
Appointments at the Vertu Motors Arena must be booked through the National Reservation Service or by calling 119.
Councilor John-Paul Stephenson, a member of the Public Health and Culture cabinet at Newcastle City Council, said: “All adults are now eligible for a Covid vaccination, and we are making sure that everyone has the opportunity to obtain their own. life-saving vaccine as quickly as possible.

How pop-up vaccination works

Having a ticket for this session guarantees your vaccine in this time slot. People are asked to bring an identity document to prove that they are over 18 years old and therefore eligible for vaccination.
People are requested not to arrive more than 10 minutes before the opening of the time slot.
Once all tickets for that session have been issued, no more tickets will be distributed until the start of the next session, when the process repeats.
Tickets are for single use only and are not transferable. Tickets for each session will only be distributed from the stated start time and not before.
