Andrew Lloyd Webber has joined others in launching legal action to try to force the government to disclose the results of its research program into coronavirus events.
The program has allowed some major music and sporting events to take place, using safeguards such as participants being required to provide a negative COVID test.
A statement from the group, which also includes Les Misérables producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh, said the government’s failure to share its findings had made it “impossible to plan a live entertainment business.”
Lord Lloyd Webber said: “Today, with a range of voices from the theater and live entertainment industries, we are forced to go further.

“Now we just need to see the data that is being used to strangle our industry so unfairly.
“The government’s actions are forcing theater and music companies to fall off a cliff as the summer progresses while selecting top-level sporting events to unfold. The situation is more than urgent.”
Lord Lloyd Webber had previously said he would open his cinemas on June 21 and was ready to be arrested.
However, he later changed his mind for fear that the cast, crew and audience would be fined.
His new production of Cinderella was to be included in the test series schedule, but he released last week.
The theater legend said he would not participate unless he was assured that other people were involved and that theater and music were treated the same as sports.
The group also wants a government-backed insurance plan for live events, new rules for quarantining productions when someone tests positive, and better guidelines on how they will perform in the future. .
