Audi Q4 E-tron 50 Sportback Edition 1 2021 UK review Car News

What is that?

The Q4 E-tron SUV first appeared as a concept in 2019 and is already well recognized as Audi’s first foray into electric vehicles for ordinary motorists, as is its close relationship under the skin with the Well-received ID 4 from Volkswagen.

Yet despite these relationships with everyone, it would still be irrelevant if the premium product provider from Ingolstadt didn’t offer a more bling-bling and faster version of its model to everyone – especially in the UK. Kingdom, where extras are a way of life and almost always make a lucrative contribution to a manufacturer’s bottom line.

Advance the Q4 E-tron 50 Sportback Quattro, which comes with fastback styling, four-wheel drive, the larger of the two battery packs on offer, two electric motors instead of one (one at the front, one at the rear, producing a combined power of 294 hp) and rapid acceleration from 0 to 62 mph of 6.2 seconds.

You can get this package in each of four different trim levels, but our test car came, very aptly, in the relatively elaborate £ 57,565 Edition 1 that many UK buyers will choose, a notch below the Vorsprung. ultimate of £ 65,000.

Audi prides itself on what it believes to be the car’s new, upturned proportions, short front overhang and long wheelbase enabled by compact engines and the low battery between the front and rear axles.

What does it look like?

For a very well equipped and relatively tall car of roughly Ford Focus dimensions, the Q4 E-tron Sportback is spacious, especially at the rear; and, at 2100kg, about 100kg lighter than some curbside competitors. Audi says there is as much space in the cabin as in a conventional upper-class SUV.

On the road, the Q4 E-tron Sportback instantly feels quick, mainly because its four-wheel traction is so efficient to start, in wet or dry conditions. The car still feels neutral, planted and responsive, although not exactly agile, perhaps because of its fairly long wheelbase (2764mm).

Steering is quick and fairly responsive around the straight, and while the ride is adjustable to five different revs (which also control steering effort, throttle response, and deceleration), it still delivers good wheel control, bump-absorbing with cushioned impact, no echoes. This and excellent build quality give this Audi a modern and reassuring feel of quality and solidity.

Performance can be approachable, but if deployed carelessly, the claimed range of 309 miles (no doubt achievable with gentle city driving) can drop well below 250 miles.
