The study found that 57% of people with the condition don’t take their gut health as seriously as they should.

And this despite more than a quarter feeling limited by restaurant menus, while 24% felt unable to socialize with others because of their concerns.

One in five people even missed important opportunities because of their poor health – or felt unable to go to work.

Feelings of isolation were felt by 46 percent due to their gut health, and 39 percent encountered a lack of sympathy from others despite their struggles.

Common symptoms of poor gut health most commonly experienced by Brits include gas, upset stomach, or feeling sluggish and tired.

Other common symptoms are feeling bloated, constipated, or having cramps.

And half of those surveyed strive for a healthy gut, but 27% feel theirs is in poor condition.

Another 53 percent would like to improve their gut health, but don’t know how – with those trying to make improvements looking for yogurt, bananas or beans to have a healthy impact.

Yet 64% think people misunderstand gut health and the issues that come with it – and 56% don’t think gut health is well known enough.

Spicy foods, processed foods and dairy products were the items the British struggled with the most after eating.
