UK travelers could be banned from EU vacations despite vaccine UK News

All British holidaymakers could be banned from taking a break anywhere in the EU – including Portugal, Spain, Greece and Italy under new proposals being discussed today within the ‘European Union (EU).

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will today try to get the EU to impose an effective ban on British travelers and holidaymakers by declaring Britain a “country of concern”, reports the Times.

If the suggestion goes ahead, it would mean that the British could not go on vacation to EU destinations despite the addition of a country to the UK government’s green list of safe travel, which regardless of their vaccination status.

The options will be discussed on Monday by senior officials from the European Union.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has invited Angela Merkel to the UK to discuss this decision, among others.

It comes as the UK prepares to add more countries to the Green List – meaning anyone traveling to these destinations does not have to self-quarantine for 10 days upon returning to the UK. .

And the UK government is investigating whether people who have received two doses of the vaccine could travel to Amber List countries without having to quarantine themselves.

Countries recently added to the green list:

  • Malta
  • Balearic Islands – Mallorca (Mallorca), Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera
  • Madeira
  • Caribbean Islands – Anguila, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Indian Ocean Territory, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat and Turks and Caicos Islands

Countries remaining on the green list:

  • Australia
  • Brunei
  • Singapore
  • South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
  • Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha
  • the falkland islands
  • Faroe Islands
  • Gibraltar
  • Iceland
  • Israel and Jerusalem
  • New Zealand
