The new Dallara EXP is a special 890 kg track with 493 hp Car News

Dallara has released a special trackday version of the Stradale, called EXP.

In the same vein as recent motorsport-derived models from Lamborghini, Porsche and a host of other big names, the new car isn’t road legal, sacrificing homologation for ultimate pace on the track.

The lap times at Mugello, the Italian circuit where Dallara calibrated the EXP, are supposed to beat the last pole position times in the GT3 class.

At 890kg, the EXP weighs a bit more than the regular Stradale, but it develops considerably more downforce and is set up to run on Pirelli slicks. Both cars share the same carbon fiber monocoque construction, on which a fully adjustable double wishbone suspension is mounted directly to the front axle and is mounted via an aluminum subframe at the rear. The whole body is also made of carbon fiber.

In its most aggressive aero set-up, the Stradale packs 855kg of downforce, which was enough for it to wipe the ground with regular supercars in our UK top rider showdown in 2019 (around the Anglesey circuit, it was 2.2 seconds faster than even the McLaren 600LT).

The EXP, on the other hand, claims to do not 855 kg but 1,250 kg of downforce – an exceptional figure made possible in part by new aerodynamic elements visible from the pit wall. These include louvers on the wheel arches, diving planes on the front apron, and a huge adjustable fender supported by gooseneck stanchions.

Maximium cornering G is a claimed 2.7 – in comparison, something like the current Porsche 911 Turbo S could handle something in the 1.3g reg.

The EXP also produces more horsepower and torque than the Stradale. Continuing to work with Bosch, Dallara released 492 hp and 516 lb-ft of the car’s 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder Ford engine – increases of 97 hp and 147 lb-ft over the road car.

This means the EXP’s power-to-weight ratio comfortably exceeds that of rarefied racing supercars such as the Ferrari 488 Pista, and top speed is increased from 165 mph to 180 mph.

While the road-approved Stradale can also be fitted with everything from a full awning to no windshield, the EXP is open-top only, in the style of prototype sports cars and other hardcore specials. such as the Lotus 3-Eleven and the Radical SR10.

Pricing has yet to be announced, but given that the Stradale starts at £ 140,000 before tax, we would expect the EXP to easily cost over £ 200,000. Dallara at least made the EXP conversion process reversible, suggesting that the additional kit is available as a package.

Figures are likely to be limited by Stradale’s initial target of 600 units.
