A man filmed harassing England’s Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty apologized for “any upheaval he has caused”.

Boris Johnson and Vaccine Minister Nadhim Zahawi were among the politicians in condemn men captured grabbing Professor Whitty as he walked through London.

They described them as “thugs” and asked the police to investigate.

Lewis Hughes, 24, from Romford, Essex, came forward to apologize to the government adviser, telling The Sun: “I absolutely apologize for any upset I have caused.

“If I made him uncomfortable, which seems to be the case, then I’m sorry.”

Insisting that there was “no malicious intent” behind his actions, which saw him lose his job, he claimed he was trying to get a selfie with the doctor to show his mother .

His friend Jonathan Chew, who also appears in the clip, told the newspaper, saying, “We just wanted a selfie.”

Metropolitan Police said they were still investigating the incident, which happened just after 7 p.m. in St James’s Park on June 27.

In the clip, which was shared widely on social media, the pair grab hold of Professor Whitty and shout “oi oi… a photo please?”

The doctor manages to take a few steps away, but the men hold him back as he crosses a road.

Finally, he breaks free with a passerby overheard saying “leave the man alone” before the end of the clip.
