Choosing a baby name can be one of the toughest decisions new parents are likely to face.

Unless a family rule is to name a child after a family member, there is a plethora of names and it can be difficult to decide on the perfect name for your child.

From traditional names to the more unusual, new names are always appearing to make your decision a little more difficult.

If you’re struggling to pick the perfect name, the experts at Baby Center have now rounded up the most popular names for newborn boys and girls in the UK to help you make your decision a little easier, reports the Mirror.

This year’s list contains a mix of traditionally popular names, as well as several new entries.

Lily, Amelia and Sophie topped the charts for girl names, while Muhammed, Noah and Oliver continue to be popular for baby names.

BabyCenter Editor Sarah Redshaw said: “Lily has taken the crown and Elizabeth, the name that inspired Meghan and Harry’s choice, is a new entry.

“Maybe the spotlight on the names will mean that they will remain popular for a few more years, as happened with Archie.”
