COVID-19: UK records 27,334 other coronavirus cases and nine related deaths | UK News

The UK has recorded an additional 27,334 coronavirus cases and nine related deaths, according to the latest government figures.

This compares to the 24,248 COVID cases and 15 deaths recorded on Sunday, and 22,868 cases and three deaths on Monday last week.

Meanwhile, some 77,222 first doses were administered yesterday and 111,410 second doses, for a total of 188,632.

This means that 67.6% of the total population has received a single injection and 50.3% are fully vaccinated.

In early April, vaccination rates fell as India slows down its exports due to the increase in cases there.

Boris Johnson is set to reveal today how he plans to “restore people’s freedoms” to England at a press conference tonight, as the UK reaches the final milestone on the roadmap after the lockdown.

The restrictions are expected to be relaxed on July 19, and Downing Street said it was hosting a conference this week to give individuals and businesses more time to prepare.

The Prime Minister will be joined by England’s Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty and Chief Scientific Advisor Sir Patrick Vallance.

The fourth milestone of the Prime Minister’s COVID-19 roadmap was delayed by a month in June, as the number of cases started to rise again, giving every adult in England the opportunity to be vaccinated.

The government has said it will not know whether its four tests (an effective vaccination program, evidence that vaccines work, manageable infection rates and low risk of variants) were met until July 12, a week before proposed date to relax final restrictions.

Meanwhile, Welsh Health Minister Eluned Morgan told a press conference: “Boris Johnson will do what he thinks is right for England and we will do what is right for us here at the Wales”.
