Hundreds more cases confirmed as person dies from Covid in Somerset Bath City News

One person has died in Somerset after contracting coronavirus, the latest figures show.

The death was confirmed to Sedgemoor and was one of 37 deaths from Covid in the UK in the past 24 hours.

Data also shows that there have been 253 more coronavirus cases recorded in the Somerset area in the past day.

According to the latest data from Public Health England (PHE), there are now 42,736 cases of coronavirus in the region since the pandemic was declared last March.

The largest single-day increase in the Somerset region was recorded in Bath and north Somerset, where 88 new cases were identified as of 9 a.m. today (July 6).

Meanwhile, the second-highest increase was recorded in North Somerset, where an additional 77 new cases were identified.

Elsewhere, there were 33 new cases in South Somerset, 20 in Somerset West and Taunton and 19 in Mendip.

The smallest increase in the region was in Sedgemoor, where there were only 16 new cases of covid.

Nationally, a further 28,733 positive coronavirus cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 4,958,868.

According to the latest figures, 37 more people have died within 28 days of receiving a positive coronavirus test, bringing the UK death toll to 128,268.

The figures also show that 45,428,681 people have now received their first coronavirus vaccine, with 33,874,176 people now being double-bitten.

The number of hospitalized patients with Covid-19 in the UK has surpassed 2,000 at its highest level in nearly three months.

The number of positive test results in each area since the start of the pandemic is recorded below, with the new positive test results in parentheses:

Bath and North East Somerset: 9534 (+88) Mendip: 3,743 (+19) North Somerset: 11,394 (+77) Sedgemoor: 5,838 (+16) Somerset West and Taunton: 6,415 (+20) South Somerset: 5 812 (+33))
