Boris Johnson is heading for a COVID showdown with MPs amid backlash over a six-week wait for self-isolation rules to end.
Conservative MPs and business leaders have reacted with fury after Health Secretary Sajid Javid said fully vaccinated children and adults will have to follow current self-isolation rules until August 16.
This means they will have to stay home for 10 days if they come in close contact with someone who tests positive for the coronavirus.
With infection rates rising, there are predictions that up to two million people could contract COVID-19 this summer – and that would potentially mean up to 10 million could be forced to self-isolate.
