Barty’s 6-3 7-6 (3) win over 2018 champion Kerber places her in a second Grand Slam final and with a chance to emulate her mentor Evonne Goolagong Cawley, who won the second of her SW19 titles in 1980.
Barty’s outfit is a tribute to the one that Goolagong wore in the first of her victories in 1971 and the 25-year-old will advance to the final against Karolina Pliskova as the favorite.

Despite making his breakthrough at the grand slam on clay, Barty’s game has always looked perfect for the turf and he won the junior title a decade ago at just 15 years old.

Barty won the first three games, using his kick serve effectively and painting the lines.

Kerber’s last win over a top-10 player was two years ago, but she started the second set much better, capitalizing on a slight drop in level from her opponent and beginning to assert some authority from the baseline.
They were 3-0 and 4-1, but the lead was slim and it wasn’t a real surprise when Barty rallied 5-4 in a weak Kerber game.
The German forced a tie-break but quickly ran into a 6-0 deficit and, although she saved three match points, Barty was victorious on her fourth chance.
“It was unbelievable,” said the seed of his winning moment. “It was almost a moment of relief, a moment of pure emotion. It was something I never, never knew if I would feel. I think being able to have the opportunity to play a final here at Wimbledon is incredible.
“That game was a great level, the best level I have played in a long time. I think Angie is an incredible competitor. She brought out the best in me today. “
Barty has followed Goolagong Cawley’s path for Indigenous Australians, adding: “It is a really special anniversary for Evonne. I couldn’t be prouder to be able to wear an outfit inspired by her. Pliskova admitted that she has surprised herself after reaching a first Wimbledon final.
The former world number one had no way of speaking when she arrived at SW19, having won just one match since Iga Swiatek beat her in Rome in mid-May.
Pliskova’s downfall has dropped her from the world’s top 10 for the first time in five years, but a three-set win over Aryna Sabalenka means she now has a chance to claim a first Grand Slam title.
“I think still half, like, I can’t believe it because somehow, going into this tournament the dream was to do the second week, of course, because it was not in the second week for a while,” he added.
“I never thought of reaching the final. There are so many incredible players in the box. “
Pliskova, now ranked 13th in the world, won a high-quality semi-final and big shots 5-7 6-4 6-4.
