Charity Carers In Beds have revealed the winners of their My Caring Role photo contest.
Caregivers were invited to take a photo, or series of photos, that represents their role as a caregiver and its impact on their lives.
The competition was judged by Chiara Mac Call, a Bedford-based photographer, whose work is currently on display at the Eagle Gallery in St Peter’s Street.
She said: “It was a tough competition to judge, with many touching and carefully thought out images depicting both the highs and the lows of benevolence. I was especially thrilled to see photos taken by children working together with siblings and parents to create complex and nuanced images. “
Events Manager Jenny Harris, who hosted the competition, added, “We ran the competition to make caregivers feel visible and valued and to recognize the incredible work they do behind closed doors. They are unsung heroes who play a vital role in supporting their relatives and friends. “
Each winner received vouchers.
Isobel won the helping parent category for two very different images. One shows her crying after a particularly difficult day and the other shows calmer moments showing her cuddling her son. They work great together to convey the emotional spectrum for caring for a child with special educational needs

Isobel’s second photo of her crying after a particularly difficult day. Chiara was moved by the emotional honesty of these images visualizing the raw emotion of the ups and downs of benevolence
Eliza and Dexter won the young caregivers category for a photo of a double rainbow in dark weather. The 10 and 7-year-olds, who help take care of their grandmother, took the photo together to show that in the sometimes dark days of care, there will always be rainbows, which worth it.
