MP Bitter SNP criticizes BBC’s Euro 2020 coverage after England boldly reaches final | United Kingdom | New UK News

Gavin Newlands said many Scottish viewers had been subjected to programs which were “completely irrelevant or of no interest to them”. The big-mouthed Scottish nationalist has written to the BBC and ITV to officially complain about their coverage of the European Championship.

In response, BBC Sports Director Barbara Slater said the public broadcaster has strived to provide a fair balance for all home nations.

She cited examples including live BBC One network coverage of Scotland against the Czech Republic with an all-Scottish side on the air, and Scottish and English commentators on highlights of the Scotland v England game.

She added that the BBC One network preview show had representatives from the three competing home countries, leading with Scotland.

The three team camps were also featured regularly during the group stages at various points in her coverage, she explained.

“No one in England, Wales or Northern Ireland should see a compilation of Scotland’s greatest hits of World Cup songs or a documentary about Scotland’s last appearance in a World Cup final. men’s tournament in 1998.

“But audiences in the other three UK countries, if they want to watch coverage of the games broadcast by the BBC, must also adopt a narrative and direction that is absolutely irrelevant or interesting to them.”

In her letter, Ms Slater said the member’s points would be incorporated into a review process.

She said: “I think we may have to agree to disagree on aspects of quality and completeness.

“We will be reviewing all of our coverage once the tournament is over and factoring in all the lessons.”
