FACE masks are expected to be reintroduced for pupils and staff in Brighton and Hove from tomorrow.
The move is one of a number of measures introduced to curb rising Covid rates in the city.
Brighton and Hove city councils say cases have ‘increased rapidly’ among school-aged children and, therefore, are advising all high schools and colleges to reintroduce face coverings into classrooms and common areas for staff and students.
A council spokesperson said: We know that some education providers have already moved towards the partial reintroduction of face coverings and we appreciate your support to help minimize the risk of transmission at this time. ”
Exemptions will remain in place, including for children with additional needs and where wearing a face covering has a direct impact on the ability to teach.
Students and their families are also encouraged to take lateral flow tests at home, twice a week and report the results.
The council said this is expected to continue over the summer vacation.
The announcement is part of a series of government-backed measures to help cope with an increase in the case of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.
The city council said additional support would be provided to boost testing and ensure the city is “safe and open for business.”
It will include the operation of two mobile symptom-free PCR testing units and the introduction of an advertising campaign to promote testing and vaccinations, targeting groups most at risk.
