COVID-19: Lockdown restrictions in Scotland will be relaxed from Monday, according to Sturgeon | UK News

Lockdown restrictions in Scotland will be relaxed from Monday, Nicola Sturgeon said – but under certain conditions.

The Prime Minister told the Scottish Parliament the country will move to level 0 but face masks will remain “mandatory”.

She went on to say that it was time to “exercise continued caution” and that lifting all restrictions would put people at risk and “risk the imposition of shielding by default.”

Speaking at a virtual Scottish Parliament meeting, Ms Sturgeon said lifting some mitigation measures “would put us all at risk” as some measures are relaxed.

She added: “While Scotland will move to level 0 from next Monday, we will do so with some changes to our indicative plans.

“This is to ensure that our pace of easing restrictions is reasonable in light of the challenge we continue to face with the Delta variant.”

  • Scotland to lift restrictions on July 19 but face masks will remain mandatory
  • Up to eight people can meet inside four homes from Monday
  • 10 people from four households can meet in a covered public place
  • There are still reasons for concern amid the high number of cases and hospital admissions
  • Scotland records 2,529 new coronavirus cases and four new deaths in past 24 hours

She confirmed that some measures, including the mandatory wearing of face masks, will remain in place for some time.

“Measures such as the continued wearing of face coverings are important, not only to provide additional protection for the population as a whole, but also to protect and reassure those of us who are particularly vulnerable and who previously needed to protect ourselves. “, she continued.
