Somerset sees 666 new cases of Covid in one day as one more person dies Bath City News

Another 666 coronavirus infections have been confirmed in Somerset and Bath – as daily UK cases surpassed 50,000 for the first time in six months.

Four regions recorded the highest daily number of coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic on Thursday.

However, today’s total (Friday, July 16) was down from the 787 recorded yesterday – although three areas saw triple-digit increases.

According to the latest figures from Public Health England, there have now been a total of 47,344 cases of coronavirus in the region since the pandemic began in March.

Bath and North East Somerset reported 194 cases today, following a record high of 227 yesterday.

Meanwhile, there were 191 in North Somerset and 110 in South Somerset.

There were 64 in Mendip, 54 in Somerset West and Taunton and 53 in Sedgemoor.

Meanwhile, another person died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19, with the new death being recorded in Bath and northeast Somerset.

At 9 a.m. as of Friday, there had been 51,870 more laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the government said.

And 49 more people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 on Friday, bringing the UK total to 128,642.

Separate figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that there have now been 154,000 recorded deaths in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Across the UK, so far 81,702,466 Covid injections have been given in the UK, 46,159,145 were first doses, an increase from 61,681 the day before.

Some 35,543,321 were second doses, an increase of 201,893.

The number of positive test results in each area since the start of the pandemic is recorded below, with the new positive test results in parentheses:

Bath and North East Somerset: 10,921 (+194)
Mendip: 4,189 (+64) North Somerset: 12,763 (+191) Sedgemoor: 6,209 (+53) Somerset West and Taunton: 6,790 (+54) South Somerset: 6,472 (+110)

The number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test result in each area since the onset of the pandemic is recorded below, with new deaths and deaths subtracted from the total of the following revisions of past data, in parentheses:
