COVID-19: UK records 54,674 new coronavirus cases and 41 additional deaths | UK News

The UK has recorded 54,674 new coronavirus cases and 41 deaths in the last 24-hour period.

The figure is an increase from 51,870 cases on Friday, which was the highest since mid-January. Some 49 deaths were reported on Friday.

Regarding vaccinations, 67,956 people received their first dose on Friday, while 188,976 completed their cure.

This brings the total number of people who have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine across the UK to 35,732,297 – 67.8% of adults.

The numbers come in the middle disruption to parts of the UK transport network, with the NHS COVID-19 app alerts leaving some services on hold due to a lack of available staff.

The London metro line has been suspended entirely, while the Piccadilly and District lines face serious delays.

Trains in the North are also affected by delays and cancellations, with services serving Lincoln, Leeds, Retford and Huddersfield all facing disruption.

Elsewhere, Sajid Javid revealed he tested positive for COVID-19, and is now awaiting the results of its confirmatory PCR test.
