People took advantage of the soaring temperatures by visiting the many parks and beaches that the area has to offer

The Northeast enjoyed bright sunshine this weekend, which has seen the country’s hottest day of the year so far.

Thousands of families, friends and tourists took advantage of the clear blue skies and scorching temperatures in the region with highs of 29 ° C on Saturday afternoon.

Ahead of so-called Freedom Day tomorrow, people were seen enjoying the best the Northeast has to offer as they flock to the beaches, parks and the dock.

On Longsands Beach, many youngsters were armed with buckets and spades as dog walkers strolled in the sun.

Surfers, paddleboarders and jet skis were also plentiful on the area’s popular coastline.

Wanting a place to soak up the sun, hundreds of people descended on Jesmond Dene where people were seen playing soccer and picnicking.

The Newcastle Wharf was bustling with people enjoying the scorching sun at the new NE1 park.

The Met Office says temperatures are expected to continue to be high until Thursday.
