We won’t stray from our usual Mediterranean hotspots this summer and have found that staying home can be fun.
We discover places on our doorstep that can be just as nice as places like Spain, France or Greece.
We don’t have a guaranteed weather forecast, but we have beautiful scenery, amazing food, and we don’t have to travel far.

We recently visited the popular resort town of Lyme Regis in Dorset and found that this popular beach paradise has appeared to the world.
What was once an old-fashioned coastal town has become cool and hip, with new restaurants and bars.
It was the perfect place for a midweek break during this week’s heatwave, uninterrupted sunshine, beaches to die for and great seafood.
We drove through Shepton Mallet and Crewkerne on beautiful sun-dappled country roads, stopping at Kilver Court for coffee and cake to interrupt the journey which took us less than two hours.
We arrived in the middle of the afternoon under a blue sky and sun on a sparkling turquoise sea, it was like being in the Mediterranean.
The sea was too tempting so before unpacking a dive straight into the refreshing waves proved irresistible.
With its brightly colored beach huts, pretty cobbled streets, little artisan shops and cafes, Lyme Regis is unique in the West Country.
It’s a historic town with plenty to see if the beach isn’t your thing.
Famous for its fossils and its place on the rugged Jurassic Coast, there are great walks to Golden Cap or nearby Charmouth.

There is also a theater with live performances most evenings and numerous musical events, regattas and festivals, most of which will take place this summer.
It can get crowded in the summer, but there are plenty of hidden beaches within walking distance where you can avoid the hustle and bustle.
The waterfront is full of ice cream parlors and the usual gift shops, but if you walk the pretty cobbled lanes you will easily get away from it all.
You’ll feel right in the south of France as you sit by the Lym River and drink an ice cold craft beer or a refreshing rosé wine.
We discovered a stunning new Strawberry Tree restaurant in the courtyard of the city’s famous mill.
Here you can sit under a mulberry tree in the garden and eat delicious slow cooked Spanish tapas and sip a strawberry daquiri.
There are a lot of great places to eat in Lyme Regis.
The Millside is a great seafood restaurant and at Lyme Bay Cafe and Bar, on the waterfront, you can enjoy a wonderful catch of the day while overlooking the ocean, with string lights twinkling at night, it’s a great place.
Kiosk, literally in a hole in the wall by the beach is a great find.
Homemade croissants and brownies every morning, crab sandwiches, toast, delicious coffee and juices, this is a wonderful place to have breakfast on the beach.
There are some great pubs, old sailor inns and some of the famous Cobb’s best fish and chip shops.
Lyme Regis is an ideal beach for children, with little current, it is safe and calm and young people can play safely all day long without massive tides or waves.
We can see why writers like John Fowles (The French Lieutenant’s Wife) and Jane Austen (Persuasion) loved this place.
There is a great vibe, lots of places to go and different beaches to try, some pebbly and some sandy.
He’s a two-person dog friendly, and dogs can bounce happily in the sea at some of the town’s designated beaches, and you can bring your pooch to almost any bar and restaurant.
We really love Lyme Regis, the so called ‘Pearl of Dorset’ has always been a favorite with locals in the west of the country, but it looks like it has had a renaissance and will be a favorite during the holiday wave. of this year.
