The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate, according to a spokesperson for the Avon Fire and Rescue Service.

He said: “Crews from Bath and Kingswood were mobilized at 19:21 to report a grass fire on Southstoke Road, Bath.

“Upon arrival, the teams found a well-lit five-acre field with multiple grass fires.

“The firefighters used four high pressure hose reels and six beaters to extinguish the fire.

“The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate.”

Shelley Carr Doyle spotted the flames earlier this evening.

She said: “I was walking my dogs in the fields and heard what sounded like pouring rain, then I noticed the plume of smoke.

“It was going fast so I realized it was a fire.

“I called the fire department and got out of the field pretty quickly. I walked around the outside and went in through the side door to see how far it had spread.

“It was horrible and fierce as you see in the video.

“The brigade came and turned it off, which was very lucky as the falls go up to the houses and the roads.”
